Using Guilt To Your Advantage

A particular Monday morning, my alarm went off at 4:45 a.m. Monday mornings I attend workout class at 5:30 that focuses on mobility and stretching. My wife and I had been out of town for the last several Mondays and we were leaving town the next day.

I rationalized, “Why don’t you sleep in? After you get back in town, you can get back into a routine.” I tried to go back to sleep, but I began to feel guilty, actually starting to sweat with guilt. I rolled out of bed and into my workout clothes, making it just in time for my class.

I grew up in the Baptist church; guilt is part of my DNA.  It is a complete day if I feel guilty and do something about it.

Joking aside, many of us get stuff done because of guilt. It is what pushes us to accomplish a difficult task, like exercising for our good health, watching our diet, or taking care of personal business.

That may include addressing our estate plan so our family or our wishes are protected and so the family has peace of mind.

So, that Monday morning, I attended my workout class. Not only did I feel better, I got inspired to write this.

It is possible to use guilt to your advantage.  If there are personal affairs you need to get in order, let us relieve your guilt – give us a call. You will feel better just rolling out of bed and getting started.
